| Description: | Riou is the hero of Suikoden II and Jowy's best friend. He starts out as a Unicorn
Brigade member for Highland, but then Highland sells him out, and he ends up in the
City States of Jowston. What a place to be. Anyway, he later gets the Bright Shield
Rune and then all hell kinda' breaks loose when Luca goes apeshit and attacks the State.
Fortunately for the State, they have Riou, the adopted son of their Hero Genkaku, and
he begins to take names and kick ass. He does it with tonfas, too, which makes it even
better! When things are all said and done, he goes and wanders off with Nanami and Jowy.

Just look at that portrait. Yeah, he looks like a wimp, doesn't he? I think Riou seriously has the worst avatar of any of the heroes, save for maybe Lazlo in Suikoden IV. His circlet is also rather stupid looking, as well. Why the hell would he be wearing that...? Does it seriously serve any functional purpose? I sure as hell can't see it. Also, his capri pants don't do him justice, either. However, I can look past that all and say he's ok-looking. Honestly, look at his weapons, the tonfas. Also known as "The Whooping Sticks." How can that not be cool? You think they suck? YOU SUCK! Anyway, I give him a pretty decent grade here. Hey, there's a lot to be said about a guy you're stuck looking at all game. Despite a poor avatar and circlet, he's kinda cool-looking. B+ |

| Usefulness in Battle: | Don't we wish we could be using Tir here...? Well, Riou isn't a poor character in battle, but he certainly isn't anywhere near as good as Tir was in Suikoden I. With that said, Riou stands out fairly well on his own as a character that's above avarage. He's essential, because it seems that seriously every cool AND good character in Suikoden II is S-range. Riou is M, and he can sit in your back-row, and still be very effective. B+ |
| Usefulness in War Battle: | Riou has the Bright Shield Rune, which means he can heal a bunch of allied units near him. This is actually fairly useful, when lady-luck wants to take a big crap on you at times. Too bad, you only get to use this once and for it to be VERY useful, Riou needs to be a cavalry unit. B |
| Overall: | He's probably my personal favorite when it comes to Tenkai stars. Something about him makes him just a tad more likeable than Tir. Maybe it's the tonfas... It seems everyone thinks that Tir is the best, and so maybe I just want to tell people to "piss off" in my own way by liking Riou better. He's also got Nanami. Who did Tir have? That's right. Gremio.
